Jining Sime Darby Port Co Ltd (North Port)
Jining Sime Darby Port Co Ltd (“North Port”) was incorporated in March 2008 as a joint venture company between Sime Darby Overseas (HK) Limited (70%) and Shandong Province Jining Municipal Bureau of Navigation Administration Channel Engineering Unit (30%).
The company’s principal activities are operation and marketing of the inland coal port, also known as North Port at Yuejingou, Jining.
Jining North Port was initiated as part of the Jining Governments efforts to consolidate 35 coal jetties in the region in order to reduce coal pollution in Jining and improve canal transportion efficiency. Designed as a modern & environmentally friendly port, it is equipped with the latest facilities such as conveyor belts, reclaimers and ship loading systems to handle a throughput of approx. 8 million MT per annum via seven 1,000 tonne berths. It began operations in December 2009.
North Port is placed amidst the rich heritage of Shandong, birthplace of Confucius the philosopher, and is north of Jining, a prefecture-level city in the Southwestern region of the Shandong province, People’s Republic of China. Jining is, at the moment, the northernmost city reachable by navigation on the 1,776km Grand Canal of China, also known as the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal – the longest ancient canal or waterway in the world. Current efforts by the Chinese government to revive the Grand Canal will see the canal extend all the way north to Beijing and down south to Hangzhou.
