Sime O&M (Thailand) Co Ltd (SOMT)
Sime Darby O&M (Thailand) Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Sime Darby Energy & Utilities, is the operation and maintenance service provider for Sime Darby Power Plant and Sime Darby LCP Power Plant in Thailand.
SOM functions from its operation centre at Laem Chabang Industrial Estate with slightly more than 40 employees, carrying out all operation and maintenance works for the two cogeneration power plants as well as it’s power and steam distribution system that serves more than forty electrical and steam customers throughout the industrial estate.
Historically, the operation and maintenance company was formed in September 1998. It was then known as IVOGS Hin Krut Company Limited and later renamed as Fortum Energy Solution. Fortum (Finland) owned the Laem Chabang Power Company Limited (LCP).
In 2002 Sime Darby acquired Laem Chabang Power Company Limited. A few years later, as plans to build another power plant at Laem Chabang began to materialise, decision was made to buy over the operation and maintenance company with the aspiration to extend the operation and maintenance portfolio to the new plant. Thus, in July 2006, Fortum Energy Solution was bought over by Sime Darby and renamed Sime O&M (Thailand) Company Limited. In 2010 in line with Sime Darby’s corporate policy the company was renamed to Sime Darby O&M (Thailand) Company Limited.
In April 2008, Sime O&M’s management system for Sime Darby Power Plant was accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 international standards. The following year barely 7 months after Sime Darby LCP Power Plant started commercial operation, the operation and maintenance management system of this plant was also accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 international standards. Sime Darby O&M (Thailand) workforce was instrumental in the accreditation of both the power plants.
Some of the other achievements were like the reduction in the number of internal disturbances by more than 50 per cent and improvement projects at site that saves a few million THB every year. Sime Darby O&M (Thailand) Company Limited has also implemented a “Happy & Healthy Workplace” program within its organisation.
